Circle Of Security Parenting

What is CIRCLE OF SECURITY PARENTING

The Circle of Security is a visual map of attachment. This map includes different needs of the children and how caregivers can create safe spaces for the children to explore the world with love, support and autonomy.

The Circle of Security Parenting is a group-based learning program where caregivers (parents, bonus parents, foster parents, grandparents, babysitters and others) learn how to provide this space for their children.

Though the Circle of Security has a map as the main instrument, the program is not meant to teach stereotypical "how-to's" but meet you where you are in your relationship with the child. This program is an invitation to reflect on your own experiences, values, past, present and future and offers you tools to enjoy your journey with your child.

What to expect from this parenting programme?

At times all parents feel lost or without a clue about what our child might need from us. Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you. The Circle of Security Parenting™ program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.

Learning Objectives of the Program:
  • Understand your child’s emotional world by learning to read the emotional needs
  • Support your child’s ability to successfully manage emotions
  • Enhance the development of your child's self esteem
  • Honor your innate wisdom and desire for your child to be secure

Meeting dates and schedule for the next group
  • We will meet for 8 Saturdays, starting January: Jan 18th, Jan 25th, Feb 1st, Feb 8th, Feb 15th, Feb 22nd, March 1st, March 8th
  • between 9 am and 11 am EST (New York Time)

Policies and procedures

Online platform:
  • We will meet on Zoom and we will watch videos of children and parents and we will collectively reflect upon them; we will share insights, reflections and stories in a safe space.

Learning process:

  • A group of caregivers will meet online and get to know each other. Together with the facilitator they will watch videos from which they will extract observations, questions and reflections. They will complete their learning with concrete and valuable information about the needs of children, attachment theory and Circle of Security.
  • The process will go from general to specific information and from simple to complex information. The length of the program (8 weeks) is allowing the information to settle down in our own lives and observe in our interactions with our little ones, the theory and the practice we discuss in our group meetings.

Attendance policy:
  • Attendance in the Zoom call requires video on, all the time;
  • The reservation is for the whole program for one caregiver; In case of an absence for one meeting, a different caregiver cannot replace the person who is participating in the program, but the meeting can be recovered the morning of the next seminar (we meet online one hour before the seminar starts). A maximum of two meetings can be recovered.
  • If an emergency arises during the meeting you can always tell us and we will find ways to adapt.
